Evan soto: plumber at rescue plumbers

Evan is the youngest child of Victor and Michelle. Growing up, working wasn’t the focus, “We have a full day tomorrow. “Its gonna be a night job.” “ What’s on the schedule?”-there were a lot of phrases like that tossed in the air with not much meaning behind it, but it sounded cool, but what did it mean? It was mostly during the summer when Evan’s dad would take him to work whenever he needed help and that’s where he started learning the basics. His Dad showed him all the important tools and how they work, but as far as the intricate and technical side of plumbing, Evan would have to wait. For a long while his focus just consisted of a lot of digging, getting tools, shadowing, and mesmerizing parts.

My dad taught me hard work can get you anywhere. That was the first thing that I was taught, but it was more than just words that integrated that idea in my head. I actually worked hard by being under the sun-digging trenches, it wasn’t the most complicated thing, but it wasn’t easy. Experiencing that changes your way of thinking, there isn’t anything too hard, there’s always a solution, “there’s always a better way”, “You gotta do it right”. Hard work is the grinding wheel to sharpening your skills, is one of things I’ve learned working with my parents and helping this business grow.

I feel very blessed to be a part of this business, the team that I work with is my family, my partners, I mean you couldn’t ask for a better job. I get to learn the ins and outs of a business, the skills you need in the field and the office. It’s now also my job and goal to help grow this company, and in that process I aspire to open a business of my own.”

During the covid lock downs, Evan was still in school, he was a senior in high school, yet no-school. Early in the lockdown, he quickly realized that online school wasn’t for him and needed to figure out what to do after high school. Covid put a strain on Evan’s motivation to pursue better grades or even college, towards the end of his senior year he decided to work instead of attending online school. He found himself working at the local speedwash carwash where he worked graveyard, he worked all night, cleaning the tunnels, vacuums, trash, parking lot, and other similar tasks, he would do this everyday for several weeks until earning his first paycheck, by that time the covid lockdown was beginning to end. Evan’s school announced that it would open for one month, so he had to quit his job to attend school, coming back was… hard. His grades were in shambles, school sports were still closed, college was out of the question, and was it possible for him to even graduate? “What am I gonna do?” During this last month of school, Evan needed to figure out how to get his grades up or he wouldn’t be able to graduate, “Just one month to get all my grades up.” He would look at his terrible grades on the computer with this stress building up. This task seemed impossible, but Evan was stubborn, everyday he would scratch one missing assignment off from each of his classes, however, this was not enough to be eligible for graduating. It seemed like reality meant no graduating this year, which is a huge sadness, at least you want to graduate. Then one day, Evan gets called to see his counselor with his parents, he’s already expecting it, his counselor is going to tell them that he can’t graduate, “Here’s some summer programs to get your G.E.D.” He’s thinking, when they have the meeting it’s quite the opposite of what Evan was expecting, he wasn’t the only student that had a hard time with online school, at some point, a lot of other students followed a similar path, with their grades dipping during covid. He got lucky, he was given a chance, all he needed to do was get one bad grade up to an A or a B, he would then be able to graduate. “You have a month or two of summer, then you’re gonna come and work.” Is what his Dad said to him after graduating and Evan was pretty ok with it, thinking about it, there comes a lot of skills and responsibility in building a business, so what better to educate himself on his family business.

Evan has been working in the field and office since graduating, being taught by his Dad, master-plumber Joe, and his Mom, they all give him the education to help build the business. He’s extremely grateful that he works with his family, being a part of a huge dream project that your parents started that you can fulfill is quite a sight to see, and helping it makes it all the better for his family and himself.
