I would definitely recommend Rescue Plumbers Inc. Joseph did a great job! He came out yesterday gave me a quote for a new hot water heater, and the install was the next day. They went above and beyond. He even explain how to operate and flush the hot water heater. There is now a shut off of valve to turn the water off right at the hot water heater, earthquake straps and a collection pan underneath. That way the water will not go into my home if there's a problem with the hot water heater it will just drain out into the cement floor of the garage. Totally happy with job that was done and don't feel as though I was taken advantage of.

Joe and Evan did a great job replacing old pipes and installing our new washer. They were very knowledgeable with plumbing works and made great suggestions that we may consider doing in the future. The total charge was very reasonable and one great thing is that unlike other companies that I dealt with in the past, they did not charge me for their travel time and their time assesing the problem. He gave us all the possible solutions with the reason why. No high pressure sale, no lies, just the facts and reasonable solutions. Rescue Plumbing is diamond in the rough. Rescue Plumbers recently repaired a water main failure at our location, and their service was outstanding. They responded quickly, diagnosed the problem efficiently, and proposed a clear repair plan. True to their word, they followed through on every detail. A testament to their work ethic is their exceptional clean-up. Once again, Rescue Plumbers exceeded our expectations. Thank you, Victor, Michelle, Ethan, Evan, and Joe. We appreciate you.

Backstory of our issue is needed to explain the gratitude I have for this company. We had 2 leaks in our home that were misdiagnosed by professionals, that would have costs us thousands to repair. Rescue plumbers came and diagnosed the problem almost immediately and fixed the issue the following day with thousands of dollars saved. Integrity is very and to find, especially when companies are trained to take advantage of their customers inexperience. Gas Line Repair Service

Gas line repair is a technical process that starts with the complete isolation of the fuel supply to prevent accidental ignition. Our technicians use high-sensitivity electronic gas sniffers and ultrasonic leak detectors to pinpoint the exact location of a breach. Once the leak is identified, we remove the compromised section of pipe and inspect the surrounding joints for signs of stress. We use heavy-duty black iron for interior repairs to provide maximum resistance against physical impact and heat. Every new fitting is treated with professional-grade, gas-rated sealant to ensure a permanent, airtight bond between the pipes. We also check the appliance connectors and shut-off valves to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely. After the repair is finished, we perform a rigorous pressure test on the entire system to confirm there are no remaining leaks.

Corrosion is a major threat to underground gas lines in Phelan due to the unique mineral content of our local soil. We specialize in identifying “pinhole” leaks in buried pipes that can cause gas to seep up through your lawn or foundation. Our team uses specialized coating and wrapping techniques to protect new underground sections from moisture and chemical degradation. We also ensure that the proper tracer wires are reconnected so the lines can be easily located by future excavators. If your underground line has failed completely, we can perform a directional bore to install a new line with minimal disruption. We prioritize using high-density polyethylene for these runs because it does not rust or corrode over time. Your outdoor gas safety is just as important to us as your indoor comfort.

Older homes often feature gas systems that have become brittle or developed “pitting” in the metal due to decades of service. We can perform a full-system audit to identify sections of pipe that are no longer meeting modern safety standards. This proactive approach prevents sudden failures that could leave you without heat or hot water during a cold desert night. Our technicians are experts at navigating tight crawlspaces and attics to find hidden issues before they become emergencies. We replace old, leaking valves with modern quarter-turn ball valves that are easier to operate and more reliable. We also ensure that all gas lines are properly supported with heavy-duty hangers to prevent sagging and joint stress. Keeping your home’s gas infrastructure up to date is a core part of our professional mission.

A common failure point in residential gas systems is the sediment trap or “drip leg” located near the appliance. These traps are designed to catch moisture and debris before they can enter the sensitive valves of your furnace or water heater. If a sediment trap becomes clogged or corroded, it can lead to slow leaks or poor appliance performance. We clean and rebuild these traps during our repair visits to ensure your appliances receive clean, dry fuel. Our team also verifies that the venting systems for your gas appliances are clear and functioning correctly. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a serious risk if your gas appliances are not burning fuel efficiently or venting properly. We take every precaution to ensure your entire gas-powered system is operating as a safe and cohesive unit.

Earthquake safety is a major consideration for California homeowners when it comes to their gas infrastructure. We can install automatic seismic shut-off valves that cut the gas supply instantly during a significant tremor. These valves prevent fires and explosions caused by pipes that may break or shift during a major seismic event. Our technicians also ensure that all flexible connectors have enough “play” to accommodate home movement without snapping. We follow all local Phelan building codes to ensure your gas system is as resilient as possible against natural disasters. If your home has been affected by a recent tremor, we can perform a full safety inspection of your lines. Protecting our community from the unexpected is a hallmark of our family-owned business.

Sometimes, a gas leak is caused by a simple mechanical failure in a shut-off valve or a flexible appliance connector. These parts have rubber seals and thin metal walls that can fail due to age or improper installation by an amateur. We carry a wide variety of high-quality, CSA-certified connectors and valves to handle these repairs on the spot. Our team never uses “seconds” or low-grade materials when it comes to the safety of your fuel system. We take the time to brush-test every connection with a specialized solution that creates visible bubbles if even a tiny leak is present. This double-check method ensures that your home is 100% safe before we turn the gas back on. You can rely on our over 20 years of experience to handle these delicate components with extreme care.

Once the repairs are complete, we assist you in the process of coordinating with the gas utility to restore your service safely. Many utilities require a professional “tag” or a city inspection sign-off before they will turn the meter back on after a leak. We provide all the necessary documentation and are happy to be present when the utility technician arrives. Our goal is to make the restoration of your home’s gas service as smooth and stress-free as possible. We educate our clients on the signs of a gas leak and the proper emergency procedures to follow in the future. Our commitment to real human connection means we care about your long-term safety, not just finishing a single job. Rescue Plumbers is your local partner for expert gas line maintenance, repair, and professional peace of mind.

We offer various payment plans that can be tailored to fit your monthly budget, allowing you to prioritize your family’s safety immediately. Most Common Gas Line Repair questions

Handling gas line issues is a high-stakes task that naturally leads to questions about safety procedures and repair methods. We have answered the most frequent inquiries below to help you understand how to manage your home’s gas system safely.

If you smell gas, your absolute priority is to evacuate every person and pet from the building immediately. Do not stop to open windows, turn off appliances, or use any electronic devices including light switches or phones. Any small spark, even from a light switch or a static discharge, can ignite a gas leak and cause a catastrophic explosion. Once you are safely away from the house, call 911 or your gas utility company from a cell phone or a neighbor’s home. Do not re-enter the building for any reason until the gas company or a licensed plumber has officially declared the area safe. We treat every report of a gas odor with the highest level of urgency to protect our neighbors in Phelan.

Once the immediate hazard is secured by the fire department or utility, you will need a licensed plumber to identify and fix the leak. The gas company will typically turn off the meter and “red-tag” the system, meaning it cannot be turned back on until repairs are made. We specialize in responding to these situations and providing the professional documentation required to get your service restored. Our technicians use advanced diagnostic tools to find the leak quickly so your family can return to a warm and functional home. We understand the stress of being displaced by a gas issue and work efficiently to provide a permanent solution. Your safety and peace of mind are the most important outcomes of our emergency repair process. Trust the Soto family to handle your gas emergency with the professional care it deserves.

To prevent leaks, we recommend installing high-quality gas detectors and carbon monoxide alarms throughout your home. These devices provide an early warning even if the “rotten egg” odor of the gas is faint or trapped in a crawlspace. Regularly checking your visible gas pipes for signs of rust or green corrosion can also help you spot problems before they become leaks. If you ever have a “near miss” or suspect a slow leak, do not hesitate to call us for a professional inspection. We provide free, no-obligation estimates and honest feedback on the state of your gas infrastructure. Rescue Plumbers is dedicated to keeping our community safe through expert technical skill and transparent service. We believe that an informed homeowner is a safer homeowner when it comes to natural gas and propane.

No, you should never attempt to repair a gas leak yourself using homeowner-grade tapes, glues, or hardware store sealants. Natural gas and propane are under constant pressure and can easily bypass temporary fixes, leading to a build-up of explosive gas in your walls. Furthermore, many general-purpose tapes will degrade quickly when exposed to the chemical properties of fuel gases. A professional repair involves cutting out the damaged section and creating new, threaded mechanical connections or using specialized gas-rated fittings. Licensed plumbers use specific pipe dopes and tapes that are rated for high-pressure gas applications and are designed to last for decades. Attempting a DIY repair on a gas line is not only dangerous but is also a violation of local Phelan building codes.

Unlicensed repairs can also lead to significant legal and insurance issues if a fire or explosion were to occur in your home. Insurance companies often deny claims for damages caused by unpermitted or non-professional plumbing work. By hiring a licensed professional, you ensure that the repair meets the strict standards of the California Plumbing Code and is fully documented. Our technicians carry the proper credentials and have years of experience in the specific science of gas delivery. We also perform a mandatory pressure test after every repair, which is a step that most DIYers cannot accurately complete. This test involves using specialized gauges to monitor the system for even the tiniest drop in pressure over time. We prioritize your long-term safety over a quick or cheap temporary fix.

Safety is the cornerstone of everything we do at Rescue Plumbers, especially when it comes to hazardous gas systems. Our family-owned business prides itself on providing “Truly Local Service” that you can trust with your most critical home infrastructure. We offer upfront pricing so you don’t have to guess at the cost of doing the job the right way. Our technicians take the time to explain the repair process and why specific materials are being used for your safety. If you have a leak, let the experts handle the heavy lifting and the high-stakes technical work. We are dedicated to providing a five-star service that keeps your home safe and your family protected. Trust the Soto family to provide the professional-grade gas repairs your Phelan property requires.

The gas utility turns off your meter as a critical safety precaution to prevent the continuous buildup of explosive fuel in your home. Even a small, slow leak can eventually fill a room or a crawlspace with enough gas to reach the “lower explosive limit.” By cutting the supply at the meter, they ensure that the hazard cannot grow while you wait for a plumber to arrive. The utility will not restore service until a licensed professional has certified that the system is airtight and meets all safety codes. This “red-tag” process is a standard safety protocol across California to protect residents and emergency responders. We work closely with local gas providers to ensure our repairs meet their specific requirements for service restoration.

Once the utility shuts off the gas, they will often perform a “leak test” at the meter to confirm the pipes are losing pressure. They will then provide you with a notice that details which part of the system is failing and what needs to be fixed. We take this information and perform our own detailed diagnostic to find the exact pinhole or loose joint causing the drop. Our team handles all the technical requirements, including the final pressure test that proves the system is ready for fuel again. We understand that being without gas means no hot water, no cooking, and often no heat for your family. We prioritize these service restoration calls to get your life back to normal as quickly as possible. Rescue Plumbers is your partner in navigating the utility’s safety requirements and restoring your home.

It is also important to know that most gas utilities are only responsible for the pipes up to the meter itself. All the piping from the meter into your home and out to your appliances is the responsibility of the property owner. This means the utility will not fix the leak for you; they will only turn off the gas to stop the immediate danger. This is where the expertise of a private plumbing company like ours becomes essential for Phelan homeowners. We provide the specialized labor and materials needed to bring your private gas infrastructure back into compliance. Our non-commission based team focuses on providing the most efficient and honest path to a safe home. We take pride in our ability to solve complex gas issues that utility technicians are not authorized to handle.

The most common cause of gas leaks in older homes is corrosion, which can eat through metal pipes from the inside out. In the High Desert, underground pipes are especially vulnerable to soil chemicals and moisture that create “pitting” in the steel. Over time, these pits become deep enough to create a tiny hole that allows gas to escape into the surrounding dirt. Inside the home, moisture in unconditioned spaces like crawlspaces can cause rust to form on the surface of black iron pipes. This rust eventually weakens the pipe walls until a leak develops at a joint or a thin spot. We use specialized coatings and high-quality materials to prevent this corrosion from returning after a repair. Our technicians are trained to spot the early signs of rust before it turns into a hazardous breach.

Physical stress on the pipes from home settling or minor seismic activity can also cause gas joints to loosen or crack. As a house moves, the rigid gas lines can be pulled or twisted, putting immense pressure on the threaded connections. Even a fraction of an inch of movement can be enough to break the airtight seal of an old, brittle joint. This is why modern codes often require flexible connectors and specific bracing for gas lines in earthquake-prone areas like Phelan. We ensure that your repairs include the necessary “play” to accommodate future movement without compromising the system. Our team also checks for any heavy objects or storage items that might be leaning on your gas lines and causing stress. We take a holistic view of your home’s structure to find the root cause of the pipe failure.

Finally, leaks can be caused by the failure of secondary components like valves, regulators, and appliance connectors. The internal rubber diaphragms in gas regulators can dry out and crack, leading to a constant “venting” of gas. Old-style brass shut-off valves can also become loose over time and allow gas to seep past the stem. We replace these outdated and failing components with modern, high-grade versions that are built for longevity. Our technicians inspect your entire gas manifold to ensure that every valve and connector is in top condition. We believe in proactive maintenance that addresses small issues before they turn into major safety concerns for your family. Trust Rescue Plumbers to provide the thorough and professional care your home’s gas system deserves.

Yes, underground gas leaks are particularly dangerous because they can persist for months without the “rotten egg” smell reaching the surface. The soil can act as a natural filter that traps the odorant added to the gas, making the leak invisible to the nose. One of the first signs of an underground leak is often a patch of dead or yellowed grass in an otherwise green lawn. The escaping gas displaces the oxygen in the soil, effectively suffocating the roots of your plants and grass. You might also notice a “hissing” sound near the ground or see bubbles forming in puddles after a rainstorm. If you suspect an underground leak, it is critical to call for a professional inspection immediately to prevent gas from migrating under your foundation.

Underground leaks can also be caused by accidental damage during landscaping projects or the installation of new fences. Even a small nick from a shovel or a post-hole digger can create a weak point that eventually turns into a full-scale leak. This is why it is so important to call for a “utility locate” before doing any digging on your Phelan property. If we find that your underground line has been damaged, we can often perform a targeted repair to save the entire run. However, if the pipe is old and severely corroded, we may recommend a full replacement using durable, rust-proof polyethylene. We use specialized equipment to track the path of the gas and find the leak without having to dig up your entire yard. Our team is dedicated to providing the most efficient and least invasive solutions for our clients.

Safety is paramount when dealing with underground leaks, as the gas can travel along the path of the pipe and enter your home through the foundation. This creates a risk of explosion in the basement or crawlspace that you might not expect. Our technicians use high-sensitivity ground probes to test the soil for gas concentration around your home’s perimeter. This thorough diagnostic process ensures that we find every leak, no matter how deeply it is buried. We take pride in our ability to handle these complex outdoor plumbing challenges with professional precision. Our family-owned business treats your property with the same care and respect we would give our own. Trust Rescue Plumbers to secure your outdoor gas lines and protect your home’s foundation from hidden hazards.

A sediment trap, also called a “dirt leg,” is a critical safety feature that prevents debris from entering your appliance’s sensitive gas valves. As gas travels through metal pipes, it can pick up small bits of rust, pipe scale, or moisture that naturally accumulate over time. If this debris reaches the burner or the control valve of your furnace, it can cause the appliance to malfunction or leak. The sediment trap is a simple T-junction that allows these heavy particles to fall into a short vertical pipe instead of flowing into the appliance. Every gas-powered appliance in your Phelan home, including your water heater and furnace, should have one of these traps installed. We check for these essential components during every repair and installation visit we perform.

If your home was built several decades ago, it may be missing these important traps, or they may be installed incorrectly. An improperly configured sediment trap will not effectively catch debris and can actually create a point for a slow gas leak. We can retrofit your existing gas lines with properly sized and positioned traps to protect your expensive appliances. This simple upgrade can significantly extend the life of your furnace and prevent “nuisance” service calls for clogged gas valves. Our technicians ensure that the trap is easily accessible so it can be cleaned out during your regular appliance maintenance. We believe in doing the job right and following all modern plumbing codes to ensure your home is as safe as possible. Rescue Plumbers is committed to providing thorough and technically sound solutions for our High Desert neighbors.

Debris in your gas lines can also lead to inefficient combustion, which increases your utility bills and the risk of carbon monoxide. When a gas valve is partially blocked by sediment, the flame may be “lazy” or produce soot that clogs the appliance’s heat exchanger. By ensuring your gas is clean and free of moisture, we help your home run more efficiently and safely. Our team takes the time to explain the importance of these small but vital plumbing features to our clients. We provide honest feedback on the state of your gas system and recommend only the upgrades that truly benefit your home. Our family-led business is built on a foundation of integrity and a commitment to five-star service. Let us help you protect your appliances and your family with professional gas line maintenance and repair.

The most reliable way to test a gas line is a “pressure drop test” using a specialized mechanical or digital gauge. After the repair is complete and the appliances are disconnected, we fill the entire gas system with compressed air to a specific PSI. We then monitor the gauge for a set period, usually between fifteen and thirty minutes, to see if the needle moves at all. If the pressure remains perfectly steady, it proves that the system is 100% airtight and safe for fuel. This test is much more accurate than just “sniffing” for gas because it can detect even the tiniest leaks that aren’t yet large enough to smell. We perform this mandatory safety check on every single gas repair we undertake in Phelan.

In addition to the pressure test, we also use a specialized “bubble solution” on every new joint and connection we have made. This liquid is designed to create large, persistent bubbles even if a microscopic amount of air is escaping the pipe. This allows us to double-check our work and ensure that every fitting is seated perfectly and the sealant is doing its job. Our technicians also use electronic gas detectors to scan the area around the repair once the fuel is turned back on. This multi-layered approach to safety is what sets a professional plumbing service apart from a general handyman. We don’t take any chances when it comes to the explosive potential of natural gas or propane. Your family’s safety is the metric by which we measure a successful repair. Finally, we perform a “meter dial test” as a final confirmation once all the appliances are reconnected and turned off. We watch the smallest dial on your gas meter for several minutes to ensure it is not moving, which would indicate a leak somewhere in the house. This comprehensive testing process gives our clients the peace of mind they need to sleep soundly in their homes. We provide you with a full report of the test results and the repairs performed for your permanent home records. The biggest difference between the two is their density compared to the air we breathe, which affects how they behave during a leak. Natural gas is lighter than air and will tend to rise and accumulate near the ceiling or in upper floors of a home. This means it can often be vented out by opening high windows if a leak is detected early enough. Propane, however, is heavier than air and will sink to the floor, pooling in low areas like basements, crawlspaces, and floor drains. This makes propane leaks particularly dangerous because the gas can “hide” in low spots and go unnoticed until it finds an ignition source. We use different detection strategies and safety protocols depending on which type of fuel your Phelan home uses.

The “rotten egg” smell added to both gases is the same, but the way you should ventilate your home differs significantly. If you have a propane leak, opening windows might not be enough to clear the gas pooling near your floor. You must be extremely careful not to create any sparks near the ground, such as by moving a metal object or dragging a chair. Our technicians are trained to handle both types of fuel and understand the specific risks associated with each. We use specialized equipment that can detect both methane (natural gas) and propane in the air at very low concentrations. Regardless of the fuel type, the emergency procedure remains the same: evacuate immediately and call for professional help. We prioritize these emergency calls to ensure our community stays safe from the hidden dangers of fuel leaks.

Propane systems often involve outdoor storage tanks and secondary regulators that natural gas systems do not have. These components create extra points for potential leaks, especially at the high-pressure connections near the tank. We specialize in repairing both the high-pressure and low-pressure sides of propane systems for our rural High Desert clients. Our team ensures that your propane tank is a safe distance from your home and that the lines are buried at the correct depth. We provide honest recommendations for tank maintenance and can help you identify when a regulator is reaching the end of its life.
